About Hemavati Nandan Bahuguna Garhwal University

Hemvati Nandan Bahuguna Garhwal University was established as a State University vide U.P. State Government notification no. (10)/(865)/15/(75)(85)/64 dated 23 November 1973. It has a rare distinction of taking birth through a powerful popular movement during early seventies in the last century. This movement symbolized the hopes and aspirations of the masses of the region of Garhwal for the development through higher education. The people of this remote mountainous region agitated for opening a university at this small but historic semi rural town of Srinagar. It was an expression of the quest for empowering their future generations for overcoming endemic economic and social backwardness, geographic and environmental constraints, re-assertion of cultural identity and harnessing of the local natural and human resources for development.
The university was converted to a Central University on 15th January 2009 by an Act of Parliament i.e. the Central Universities Act 2009. The University, thus been entrusted with new responsibilities to guide its students, faculty and all other stakeholders to achieve excellence in academics and strive for all round development of the students. Since its inception, the University has shown commitment towards regional and community development which is inherent in its teaching courses, research agenda and other outreach and extension initiatives. The synergy derived from circumstances of its genesis still inspires and promotes its vision for future. However, being a Central University, HNBGU has a Pan-India appeal and draws students from various pockets of the country.
The University, nestled in the lap of Himalayan ranges in the Garhwal region of Uttarakhand, is a residential cum affiliating institution of higher learning. It has jurisdiction over seven districts of Garhwal region of Uttarakhand. The University has three Campuses distantly located from each other - Birla Campus, Srinagar Garhwal with its extension at Chauras Campus, B. Gopal Reddy (BGR) Campus, Pauri and Swami Ram Teerth (SRT) Campus, Badshahithaul, Tehri. In addition, there are 121 colleges and institutes affiliated to it, spreading over seven districts of Garhwal region of Uttarakhand. In University campuses the undergraduate, post-graduate and research programmes are being offered in various disciplines. Besides conventional courses under different streams of studies, the University has introduced some regionally relevant courses that are of greater significance for the mountainous areas.

VISION
To achieve excellence by empowering all stakeholders through promotion of innovations in the field of higher education by imparting training and education, and encouraging research for the development of the country with specific attention to the mountain region.

MISSION
To stimulate the academic environment for promotion of holistic learning and research and contribute to the nation’s growth. To inculcate values and impart skills for shaping able and responsible individuals committed towards the intellectual, academic and cultural development of society.

OBJECTIVES
01. To disseminate and advance knowledge by providing instructional and research facilities in the areas of humanities, social sciences, science and technology and other branches of learning.
02. To make special provisions for integrated courses in its educational programmes.
03. To take appropriate measures for promoting innovations in teaching-learning process and inter-disciplinary studies and research; to educate and train manpower for the development of the country.
04. To establish linkages with industries for the promotion of science and technology.
05. To pay special attention to the improvement of the social and economic conditions and welfare of the people, their intellectual, academic and cultural development.

FOCUS OF THE UNIVERSITY
01. Excellence in higher education and research relevant to both nation, as a whole, and the hill states, including Uttarakhand, in particular.
02. Expansion and inclusion at UG and PG levels of teaching for better outreach in rural areas, especially to the women in the hill districts of Uttarakhand.

About Shree Dev Suman Uttarakhand University

Sri Dev Suman Uttarakhand University is established as a State University of Uttarakhand vide Sate Government notification No 270/XXXVI(3)/2012/48(1)/2012 dtd 19th October, 2012 in continuation to amendment of erstwhile Pt Deen Dayal Upadhyay Uttarakhand Vishwavidhyalaya Act. 2011 (Uttarakhand Act No 22 of 2011) as notified by State Government vide No 357/XXXVI(3)/201 1/57(1)/2010 dated 4th November, 2011.
The establishment of University is a rare distinction of popular and powerful demand and symbolised the hopes and aspiration of the people of Garhwal for the development through the instrument of higher education. The masses of this remote mountainous region demanded for opening a new University at Badshahi Thual, a small but historical town of Tehri Garhwal of Uttarakhand. It was an expression of the quest for empowering their future generation for overcoming endemic economic and social backwardness, geographic and environmental constrains, re-assertion of cultural identity of the local natural and human resources for development.
The University. nestled in the lap of Himalayan ranges in the Tehri Garhwal and having juridiction over seven districts viz. Chamoli, Raudraprayag, Pauri, Tehri. Uttarakashi. Haridwar and Dehradun of Garhwal region of Uttrakhand.
Sri Dev Suman Uttarakhand University Badshahi Thaul is situated on the way between Chamba and New Tehri at a distance of 3 km from Chamba, one of the brightest spots of district Tehri Garhwal, at an elevation of 1676 m from sea level. This town, situated on Delhi-Gangotri national highway, offers one of the most spectacular view of snow capped Himalaya and enchanting Bhagirathi Valley. The university campus is situated at an elevation of 1750 m on a ridge facing to the east, surrounded by dense oak and pine tree forest. It is at a distance of 8 km from New Tehri, a newly established master-planned township at an elevation of 1900 m and district headquarter of Tehri Garhwal. The famous Tehri Dam along with a huge lake between mountains, situated at a distance of 20 km from university campus, is a recent addition to the tourist attractions in the area.
Nearest Airport (Linked to Delhi) is Jollygrant (Dehradun) at a distance of 80 km from university campus. Rishikesh is the nearest railway station at a distance of 65 km. However, Haridwar is more convenient (distance 90 km) as it is well connected to all major cities of India by rail.
The university campus, Badshahi Thaul is well connected by road to all important stations of Garhwal Division like Haridwar, Rishikesh, Dehradun, Mussoorie, Uttarkashi, Srinagar and other parts of the region. Frequent bus services as well as private taxies and jeeps are available from these places to Chamba and New Tehri. It takes about 3 hours to reach Badshhai Thaul by bus from Haridwar and Dehradun, and about 2 hours from Rishikesh

Science and Technology in its educational programmes: to take appropriate measures for promoting innovations in teaching learning process and inter-disciplinary studies and research: to educate and train man power for the development of the State and country: to establish linkages with industries and research organisations for the promotion of science and Technology in the state: and to pay special attention to the improvement of the social and economic conditions and welfare of the people, their intellectual, academic and cultural development.
